Why Continuing to Fund Arts Education is Important.

Arts education is more than “fun classes”,  it plays a real role in helping children grow emotionally and socially. Research shows that thoughtful arts programs support skills such as empathy, self-expression, and teamwork, which help kids understand themselves and others better. Investing in arts education gives children opportunities to develop these important life-skills.

Arts Ed in Your Child's Socioemotional Development

Arts education (whether it’s visual art, music, dance, or theater) isn’t all the same, but many forms of arts learning offer powerful benefits for your child’s emotional and social growth. Socioemotional development includes understanding and managing emotions, building positive relationships, and learning empathy. Researchers argue that distinct types of arts experiences can build these skills in unique ways when placed in the right setting and supported properly.

Some arts programs encourage children to take another person’s perspective and express their own feelings, such as through acting or collaborative performance activities. These experiences help children become more aware of others’ emotions and develop stronger relationship skills with peers.

Arts activities also often require practice, reflection, and working together whether children are rehearsing a piece of music, creating artwork alongside classmates, or responding to a story on stage. These moments help kids build confidence, emotional regulation, resilience, and the ability to work cooperatively, all of which are essential for healthy social and emotional growth
